Day 5

We woke up to witness a lovely African sunrise from our balcony. We had breakfast at 7am, looking out across the Serengeti.

We met up with Filex at 8am and the guys from the lodge drove us back to the footbridge where we could then walk across to our safari car.
Early on, on our game drive this morning we saw several monitor lizards in the large puddles/lakes on the road and then later we saw an eagle in the middle of the road eating a dead one, you could smell the carcass.

Further on we saw a hyaena pointing its head out of its den, some hippos in the fast flowing Grumeti River and a large group of banded mongeese.

Of course there were also various different types of antelope plus zebra, waterbuck, warthogs and monkeys.

Driving on further we then saw a male and female lion very near to the Serena Lodge. Some of the staff had gone out that morning to play football and had spotted them.

About 1pm we started to head back to the lodge for a late lunch when we came across a huge group of elephants. Caf had really wanted to see elephants and the look on her face as she watched them was priceless. We stayed for over half an hour just watching these amazing animals.

We got back to the lodge about 2.30pm and enjoyed a good lunch. Then we spent what was left of the afternoon just relaxing by the pool.

We opted for a late dinner tonight at 8.30pm, There was plenty of lightning in the distance this evening but no thunder or rain. Another great day.
