Day4

Day 4

Today we arranged with Filex to leave for safari at 10am so we had a leisurely breakfast before setting off.

We had to drive through Mwanza before heading to the Serengeti gate. At around 2 pm we stopped at a local bar for a lunch of nyama choma (grilled meat), chips, ugali and salad. We introduced Emma, Si, Robbie and Caf to eating Tanzanian style, where you all share the food and eat with your fingers.

After lunch we headed to the gate for the Serengeti. Filex quickly completed the paperwork and our safari began.

This afternoon we saw plenty of zebra and wildebeests as well as several jackals, waterbuck, monkeys and baboons, topi, buffalo, gazelles, ostriches and quite a few other birds birds.

However as we got further into the Serengeti the roads got worse and worse. There had been heavy rain over the past few days which made it very difficult for Filex and our progress was slow. That night we were staying at Mblageti Lodge. In order to reach it we needed to cross the fast flowing Mblageti River which was impossible. So in the end we parked the car and used the a narrow rope bridge to cross on foot and a jeep from the lodge met us the other side and drove us the last kilometre to the lodge.

We checked in and were shown to our rooms which are very nice.

The lodge had a restaurant, bar and swimming pool. We had time for a quick shower before they served dinner. The food and wine were both good. This had been a good start to our safari.
